CLINICAL RESEARCH
Ongoing clinical research studies at Comprehensive Health Services help pharmaceutical and device manufacturing companies offer new and innovative treatment to patients, often before they become available to the general public. Patients who participate are given free medical care for the duration of the study, and feel good about the fact that they are helping others.

What is a Clinical Research Trial?
The medical community is always searching for safer and more effective medications, medical devices and instrumentation. A clinical trial is a supervised research study of a medication or device to evaluate its safety and effectiveness.

For any given disease or condition, a clinical trial may establish:

• the first effective treatment;

• a more effective treatment;

• a better tolerated treatment;

or find a new use for a currently available treatment.

Each study is designed to determine whether an investigational drug or device is helpful, and to determine whether it has any side effects. The goal is to find new and better ways to help patients.

How are Drugs and Devices Tested?
Guided by US laws and regulations, a drug or device must go through a number of different testing phases to prove that it is both effective for the targeted medical condition and is safe for use in patients. The first step for the development process is laboratory investigation, where extensive chemical and animal studies are conducted to gain an understanding of how the product works. Next, the device or drug is evaluated for safety in a small group of healthy human volunteers. If test results prove satisfactory, the item is tested on a larger number of patients with the targeted condition to determine actual benefit. If these rigorous screening tests are passed successfully, a new device or medication enters the market place.

Safety
All of our study devices and medications have been shown to be safe, and are approved by the Food and Drug Administration for investigational use on a large number of patients. Once an item has been shown to be safe, it must be further tested for effectiveness, benefits, and the range of possible adverse reactions.

Benefits
People who volunteer for clinical drug or device trials can gain access to promising new devices or drugs long before these products are approved for the marketplace. Volunteers typically get excellent care, which is provided free at no cost to them, during the course of the study. Volunteers may also be paid a small fee to participate in a clinical trial.

Services may include laboratory tests, electrocardiograms (ECG’s), physical examinations and visits with one or more of our study physicians. Other benefits include health information derived from laboratory test results and the evaluation of your general physical and mental health. If needed, study participants will receive referrals for additional treatment. You will also have the satisfaction of knowing you have contributed to a scientific investigation.Welcome

Center Overview
Comprehensive Health Services Research Institute is a fully dedicated, modern, spacious, multi-specialty research facility for the purpose of conducting phase II-IV clinical trials. We are located in Phoenix, Arizona, within 7 miles from Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport, 13 area hospitals, and 20 colleges and universities.

Phoenix is the 5th largest city in the USA, with a 5.1 million countywide population. We draw patients from the surrounding population, primary and multi-specialty care specialty groups, area hospitals, and other health care institutions.

We network with study coordinators of other private practices, to screen patients for participation in various studies. In addition, we utilize various methods of advertising including local newspapers, magazines, radio, and brochure mailings.

Many patients who have participated in studies return for participation in later studies. Qualified professionals carefully screen each potential patient to ensure that they meet the criteria set by the sponsor. As a result of careful and extensive patient recruitment, we often surpass the required patient enrollment.
