The Naturopathic Medical Physicians, Osteopathic Medical Physicians, Chiropractic Healthcare Physicians, and other healthcare providers of Comprehensive Health Services, Inc. welcome you to the therapeutic modality of homeopathic medicine.

Today throughout the world more conscientious physicians of all schools of healing ‑ N.M.D./N.D., D.O., D.C., M.D., H. M. D., D.D.S./D.M.D., D.P.M., N. P., and others ‑ whether they are general practitioners or specialists ‑ are turning towards homeopathic medicinal care (homeopathy) to aid them in curing the sick and injured.

"The physician's high and only mission is to restore the sick to health, to cure, as it is termed."

"The highest ideal of cure is rapid, gentle and permanent restoration of health, or the removal and annihilation of disease in its whole extent, in the shortest, most reliable and most harmless way, on easily comprehensible principles."

Samuel Hahnemann M.D.

Founder of Homeopathy

1. WHAT IS HOMEOPATHIC MEDICINE?

Homeopathic medicine is a scientific and time proven system of healing the sufferings of a patient. This is accomplished by the administration of a medicinal substance which has already been shown to possess the power of producing similar sufferings when administered in toxic quantities to a healthy person.  The very name HOMEOPATHY is derived from two Greek words: HOMOEOS meaning similar, and PATHOS meaning suffering. From this concept the motto of homeopathic medicine, SIMILIA SIMILIBUS CURENTUR, meaning 'Let Likes Be Cured By Likes', was formulated.

Homeopathic medicines (remedies) are made by taking one part of a mother tincture (undiluted pure water infusion [like a tea] or an undiluted alcohol extract), the pus of a disease sore, a natural mineral or a normal body chemical [an enzyme, hormone or other functional chemical) and mixing it with either 9 or 99 parts of a non-reactive substance like pure alcohol, milk sugar, or talcum powder. This mixture is then subjected to a thorough mixing by pounding it 200 plus times. The resultant mixture is referred to as either a lx (1:10) or a 1C (1:100) homeopathic potentization medicine (remedy). This 1X or 1C is put through the same process and the resultant medicine is termed a 2X or 2C. The process is repeated again and again to make up to 100,000X or 100,000C potentized medicine. The higher the number the stronger the homeopathic medicine is said to be, even though the concentration of molecules is getting smaller and smaller. In fact when a dilution of 1 times 10 to the 23rd power is reached (23X or 11 1/2C), the theoretical molecular limit is reached. This is analogous to the chemistry terms Avogadro's law and Avogadro's number.

Avogadro's law is defines as the principle that equal volumes of all gases a the same tempe4rature and pressure contain the same number of molecules.  Thus, the molar volume of all ideal gases at 0ºC and a pressure of 1 atmosphere is 22.4 liters.

Avogadro's number (Avogadro's constant) is defined as the constant, 6.02 times 1023, representing the number of atoms in a gram atom or the number of molecules in a gram molecule.

The strength of homeopathic medicine depends on its electromagnetic energy field instead of its chemistry.  This physical law is the least understood aspect of homeopathy yet it is the core of all the homeopathic pharmacopoeia (medicine book).  There are specific potentizations that have been shown to be more active in stimulating the body to heal itself.  They are 3, 6, 12, 30, 200, lm (1,000), 10m ( 10,000), 50m (50,000), and 100m (100,000). The centesimal (c) scale of homeopathic medicine manufacturing is the primary one used by physicians at CHS.  Think of these potencies just like you would think of harmonic notes on a musical scale.  Some people who use homeopathic medicines use a low potency with a number of different remedies at various potencies.  Think of this medicine as you would think of a chord in a musical score.  Its vibrational character is quite different than each of its individual potentized component parts.

Homeopathic medicines are also spoken of as "low potency" and as "high potency".  The low potency medications are those medicines that are dilut6ed and potentized up to the theoretical limit of molecules that could be in the medicine prescribed for the patient.  In the decimal system that would be up to 23X.  In the centesimal system it would be to 11C.  Homeopathic medicines that have been diluted and potentized above 23X or 11C would be considered "high potency".

2. HOW DO HOMEOPATHIC MEDICINES CURE THE SICK?

The brain produces messenger chemicals, pheromones and prostaglandins, that are carried by the blood stream to target endocrine, hormone producing, organs. These pheromones and prostaglandins turn on and turn off the hormone producer tissues that keep the body's functions balanced. The brain is stimulated to produce specific pheromones or prostaglandins by each of the over 1,000 proven homeopathic medicines. The different strengths of the medicines stimulate varying levels of the specific pheromones and prostaglandins. The circadian, recurring cycle, rhythms of the body's chemistry cycles are addressed by specific timing of medicine dosing or consumption by the patient.  Additional balancing of the body by this dosing allows it to function more normally within the circadian rhythm cycle of the various chemistry cycles necessary for normal cellular/tissue/organ/body functioning.  The normal functioning of the immune, digestive, respiratory, and other systems is termed health.

The brain plays a role similar to a symphony conductor. When the musical score (piece of music) calls for the violins to play, the conductor cues the violins. When the musical score says the cellos (a string instrument) should play more softly, the timpani (percussion section, i.e. drums, cymbals, etc.) should stop, or the entire orchestra should pick up the tempo (speed), the conductor so instructs the musicians. This is how the conductor controls the musicians in the orchestra and makes symphonic music instead of chaotic noise.

The players in the orchestra and their instruments represent the body's organs and their functions. The experience and skill of the conductor represent the brain with its learned and inherited abilities. The musical score represents the sequencing of functions of all of the organs.

When one musical score is replaced by another ‑ Vivaldi's Mandolin Concerto is put aside and replaced by Hayden's Surprise Symphony, for example ‑ the same musicians use the same instruments, and the same conductor uses the same experience and skills. The sound and the mood of the music are different but the elements that make the music are still the same.

In the body when one organ's normal synchronized function is replaced by an altered synchronization of function or a completely different function, disease is the result.

3. WHAT IS HEALTH?

"A condition in which all functions of the body and mind are normally active. The World Health Organization defines health as a state of complete physical, mental, or social well‑being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity." (Tabor's Cyclopedic Medical Dictionary).

4. WHAT IS CURE?

Cure is returning a patient to that condition of well-being when the patient has none of the original symptoms or complaints (is no longer abnormally conscious of any part of his body), is full of energy, and is able to eat and drink in moderation, without becoming aware of any undesirable effects, i.e. pain or discomfort.

5.HOW LONG DOES A PATIENT HAVE TO BE UNDER HOMEOPATHIC TREATMENT?

Each person must make the decision regarding the level of health at which one is happy to live life. Homeopathic medicine, as any other type of medicine that is appropriately prescribed, should be continued until the desired result is obtained.

6. HOW SOON DOES A PATIENT NOTICE IMPROVEMENT?

This is variable depending on the type of ailment and the overall condition of the patient. In the case of acute ailments, when the patient immediately undergoes homeopathic treatment, the time can be very short, varying from a few minutes to a few days. In the case of chronic illness, many patients start noticing relief in four to six weeks from the start of treatment. Some patients find relief much sooner due to the prior chemical detoxification and diet corrections, physical balancing and/or spiritual (psychological) healing.

7. HOW SOON IS A PATIENT CURED?

Acute conditions usually respond to homeopathic treatment very quickly, and the cure is complete in a matter of days, without any side effects. However, chronic conditions certainly take time to be cured. Many chronically ill patients get complete relief in 20 to 24 weeks from the start of homeopathic treatment. This holds true if they follow their physician's instructions and desist from taking any medication that is not expressly allowed. Some patients get cured in a much shorter time while a few patients take much longer ‑ sometimes as long as a year or two or even longer.

Generally, younger people tend to heal more quickly, while those who have taken many different medications tend to take longer.

Constitutional conditions (inherited - genetic) are helped but not often cured - necessitating periodic intervention by your physician to maintain the condition in a symptom free state.

8. AFTER CURE WITH HOMEOPATHIC TREATMENT, DOES THE CONDITION RETURN?

The term cure is relative to the context and understanding in which it is used. Cure implies complete reversal of all pathology and symptomatology. Sometimes the best that can be done is to effect either a complete or partial remission of symptoms. Many people welcome a 10% reduction in symptoms. While other people insist on 100% sometimes when only 60% is possible. These lesser percentages of relief may also be termed a cure in a limited sense of the word. The recurrence of symptomatology after correction of the cause of an illness or disability is due to new causative factors and must be addressed as a new illness or condition - even if the previous condition was only helped and not really cured.

9. UNDER WHAT CIRCUMSTANCES DOES THE CONDITION RETURN?

If the person stopped treatment after the pain or discomfort was alleviated but before the condition was cured then a recurrence of symptoms is to be expected. The cycle of symptom exacerbation (recurrence) and remission (relief) continues until the causative factor(s) are corrected. Some injuries, whether emotional, chemical or physical result in permanent impairment. These situations require regular care sometimes referred to as maintenance care. Another factor to be considered in non-curable conditions is genetic illness. This is referred to as a constitutional problem.

10. WHAT IS A 'CONSTITUTIONAL PROBLEM'?

All ailments, diseases and disorders are caused by either heredity, environment, the stressful (physical, mental, or chemical) situations we place ourselves in or a combination of these factors. Every one of us is born with certain hereditary imbalances and we all live in environments that induce some imbalance that causes ill health. The 'health conditions' that these hereditary and/or environmental factors cause are termed constitutional problems.

11. HOW DOES ONE KNOW WHETHER A PARTICULAR CONDITION IS A CONSTITUTIONAL PROBLEM?

In the beginning of your care the classification of an illness as a constitutional ailment may be obscure. Every ailment whether it is a constitutional problem or not is treated in the same way, that is, by administering a remedy which has already been proved to possess the power of producing a similar suffering when it is administered to a healthy person.

Your Comprehensive Health Service assigned physician knows the symptoms of a constitutional condition will return sporadically throughout life. Therefore, we strongly recommend that on the return of a condition, the patient should visit his physician again. This time, as the patient would be getting homeopathic treatment immediately on the return of his condition, the cure will be that much faster, very often a matter of only a few days. If the patient develops the same condition a few months later the physician will consider the possibility of labeling the condition as a constitutional problem of that patient. Then he may be in a position to prescribe the patient's constitutional remedy.

12. HOW OFTEN SHOULD A HOMEOPATHIC CONSTITUTIONAL MEDICINE BE TAKEN?

It must be clearly understood that homeopathic medicines are not food supplements, and, they must not be taken indiscriminately. Your physician will be able to guide you as to how often and under what circumstances you should take the prescribed constitutional medicine doses. This is commonly no more often than every four to six months.

13. HOW HAVE HOMEOPATHIC MEDICINES BEEN PROVED (PROVEN TO WORK) BY RESEARCH METHODS?

Basic homeopathic research to determine the curative effect of homeopathic medicines requires that all experiments are performed on healthy human beings.

In brief, the procedure is to select suitable healthy volunteers for medicine 'provings' and to give these volunteers repeated and heavy doses of the medicine to be 'proved'. These medicine provers are kept under careful and constant observation and every symptom that develops or is felt by the 'prover', is carefully and accurately recorded.

From factual observations of these medicine "provings" researchers have found that nearly every medicine acts on the entire human system ‑ that is ‑ the homeopathic medicine acts on the mind, the senses, the inner head, the outer head, eyes, ears, nose, face, teeth, tongue, mouth, throat, on desires and aversions in food, on appetite and thirst, the stomach, abdomen, stools and anus, urine and urinary system, male and female sex organs and the reproductive system, larynx, breathing, lungs, heart and pulse, the outer chest, neck and back, arms and legs, hands and feet, nerves, sleep, fevers, sweat, skin, etc., etc.

To understand the homeopathic system of medicine in more detail, it is recommended that you read Homeopathy for the Modern Man by George Vitoulkas or similar literary works written for the non-physician.

14. WHY NOT PROVE HOMEOPATHIC MEDICINES ON ANIMALS?

Research has shown that substances work differently in each type of living organism on this earth. Substances that have been shown to be of great medical benefit to different animals have been shown to be poisonous when taken by another type of animal including humans. Since homeopathic medicine is very specific in its effect in an individual species of living organism the medicine must be 'proved' in that species of living organism to allow it to be used medicinally according to homeopathic medical science.

Simplified; test dogs to treat dogs, and humans to treat humans.

15. HOW CAN HOMEOPATHIC MEDICINES CURE DISEASES THAT ARE CAUSED BY BACTERIA, VIRUSES, FUNGUS, YEAST, AMOEBAS, PROTOZOA AND OTHER GERMS OR PARASITES?

Parasites and germs do cause specific disease symptoms by their interference with metabolic functions. This interference is accomplished by their nutritional use of one of the body's nutrients. When the disease causing organism uses a particular molecule for its' own nutrition, this makes it unavailable for a metabolically specific chemical pathway in our body to function in a normal manner and we in essence starve. Another mechanism of disease causation is their waste chemicals interfere with a specific metabolic chemical pathway causing the target organ or tissue to malfunction. Either of these cause disease to occur. Many germs are resident in our bodies at all times and normally are not associated with disease symptoms. Our immune system normally keeps them under control and proper body chemistry does not provide these germs with an abundance of food to fuel their wildfire multiplication.

Virulent (very strong) disease producing germs that take advantage of any opportunity to live and multiply are not normally accepted into our bodies by our normal living processes and therefore do not normally live in our bodies. When we become infected by these germs a rapid specific chemical treatment such as antibiotic therapy is needed to kill them as our immune system hasn't yet evolved to handle them. These germs infect us when introduced by a wounding or some other mode of entry.

Homeopathic medicine stimulates the brain to produce pheromones and prostaglandins. These are chemicals produced by the brain and other areas of the body to stimulate hormone production in a target organ or to stimulate activity in another person. Some of these pheromones are designed to tell the individual components of our immune system exactly what needs to be done to handle the disease producing organism. The physician's diagnosis of one's condition indicates which therapeutic approach is appropriate.

Homeopathic medicines act on the patient in such a way that the body ceases generation of 'food' for the germs, causing the germs to starve and the patient's health to be restored. With antibiotics the germs are killed, but the waste products that provide food for germs remains. Very often, it takes a long time for the patient to recuperate and regain normal health when they have been treated allopathically with antibiotics. It is possible to treat homeopathically with antibiotics.

Over the years physicians who use homeopathic methods have found that recovery from the so-called 'infectious' diseases is much faster with homeopathic medicines than with standard allopathic medicines, and there are no after effects.

More importantly, the same homeopathic medicines that were effective against the so‑called 'infectious' and 'contagious' diseases 175 years ago still continue to be just as effective. No germ has ever developed a resistance to homeopathic remedies.

16. WHICH DISEASES ARE CURABLE WITH HOMEOPATHY?

Homeopathy treats the patient and not the disease. Homeopathy has no medicine for the name of any disease, but there is specific homeopathic treatment for every individual suffering from any disease.

The methodology of homeopathic medical care recognizes that in addition to the specific leading symptom that gives the disease its name, there is another group of symptoms that is peculiar to the patient suffering from that disease. These individual symptoms of every disease point to the homeopathic medicine that would be curative for that particular patient. It makes no difference whether the ailment or disease has been given the name of obesity, hyperacidity, a toothache, a cancer, tuberculosis, a tumor or any other morbid growth, or any form of acute or chronic condition that affects the human race.

There are no properly chosen diseases that are incurable using the homeopathic medical approach to cure. However, some people are too debilitated to respond because they waited too long to seek help or by virtue of their past history, suppressive and palliative treatments, attitudes and life styles furnish a foundation which refuses to allow illness to be uprooted.

Homeopathic physicians throughout the world are treating patients who are said to be suffering from diseases and conditions that modern medicine identifies and names as follows:

Arthritis & Asthma, Backaches & Birthmarks, Cancers & Cataracts, Depressions & Diabetes, Eczema & Epilepsy, Fibroids & Fistula, Gout & Gonorrhea, Hemorrhoids & Hysteria, Insanity & Insomnia, Kleptomania & Kidney problems, Leukemia & Leukorrhea, Menstrual & Menopausal problems, Nausea & Nervous breakdown, obesity & Osteomyelitis, Paralysis, Polio & Psoriasis, Rheumatic fever & Rheumatism, Sciatica, Schizophrenia & Syphilis, Tetanus & T. B., Ulcers & Urticaria, Vaginitis & Varicose Veins, Warts & Welts, etc., etc.

It is not the diagnosed disease that ultimately determines 'curability', it is the patient burdened with the illness.

17. WHEN DOES HOMEOPATHIC TREATMENT FAIL TO CURE?

Homeopathy is not a cure‑all. There are a number of cases where homeopathy does not 'seem' to be effective. However, every time an "incurable" case is critically examined, it has been learned that the cause of failure can be attributed to one of the following:

a. Terminal Cases. The ailment had progressed so far that there was no 'vital' curative energy left in the person for the homeopathic medicine to effect a cure, i.e. the patient's organ system(s) function had reduced below the critical mass necessary to sustain life during the time required to effect a correction of the causative malfunction.

b. The original ailment and its symptoms had been so suppressed, altered and modified by the repeated and sometimes constant use of the 'modern wonder drugs' that the true disease was no longer recognizable. This suppression is brought about by the allopathic drug or symptomatically chosen natural substance "fixing" (effecting) the end product of disease altered metabolism (symptoms) instead of correcting the original causative factor(s). Therefore, when a condition cannot be properly recognized it cannot be cured.

c. The patient's attitude and life style made him impatient for a cure. The patient was not willing to give homeopathic medicines time to revive his 'vital' curative energy and cure the condition.

D The correct homeopathic medicine that would have been curative for that particular case escaped the attention of the prescriber.

e. The patient failed to truthfully report all his symptoms. The patient had either been shy about telling all, or he had felt that some of his symptoms had nothing to do with the ailment that he wanted cured.

f. The cause was of a non‑homeopathic nature i.e., illness or injury due to physical, cultural, habituation, or other activity not compatible with a healthy life.

18. WHY DOES A PHYSICIAN (A PERSON LICENSED BY THE STATE TO ACT AS A TOOL FOR HEALING) ASK SO MANY QUESTIONS?

A physician using homeopathic therapeutics understands various diseases affect different organs of the body in a variety of ways. This causes various combinations of symptomatology. He knows and appreciates a human being is not just various different organs chaotically assembled.

He knows a number of homeopathic remedies have the same effect on the same organ, but each one of those remedies affect the entire patient in very different ways.

In order to make the best selection possible, the physician must know a lot about his patient. The patient's present primary complaints, a history of all past ailments, family history, reaction to weather, desires and aversions to food, sleep patterns, dreams, ambitions and fears, moods, and all other aspects of ones life. once the physician has collected all the information about the patient's condition, he can gain a perspective of the real condition and match the records of the 'provings' of the various homeopathic medicines with the patient's symptoms, and select the one with the closest simile (likeness) to the patient's symptom picture.

As an example, consider the case of Migraine ‑ a recurring paroxysmal headache. Most treatments for true migraine fail to achieve a lasting cure. With homeopathic treatment a complete cure is certainly possible, but there is no specific homeopathic medicine that could be generally prescribed for various cases of migraine.

The Dorland's Medical Dictionary defines migraine as "An often familial symptom complex of periodic attacks of vascular headache, usually temporal and unilateral in onset, commonly associated with irritability, nausea, vomiting, constipation or diarrhea, and often photophobia; attacks are preceded by constriction of the cranial arteries, usually with resultant prodromal sensory (especially ocular) symptoms, and commence with the vasodilation (congestion of blood circulation) that follows."

This definition indicates that there is a large variety of migraine headaches. It is obvious no single medicine would work effectively for such a variety of headaches.

To be able to prescribe a curative homeopathic medicine for migraine, a physician has to know the following:

Ø       The exact location of pain.

Ø       Does the pain remain in one place or does it change position?

Ø       If it moves, what direction does it move?

Ø       What body positioning aggravates it?

Ø       How does it make the patient feel?

Ø       How does the patient act during the painful episodes?

Ø       All other effects the pain has on the patient.

Ø       How the pain comes on ‑ quickly or slowly?

Ø       How does the pain leave ‑ quickly or slowly?

Ø       Is there any condition that brings on the pain or makes it leave?

The selection of a homeopathic medicine is facilitated when the physician knows of any activity, any position, any part of the day or night, any application of warm or cold water or dry heat or cold, any change in temperature or atmospheric conditions that make the patient feel better or worse or relieve the pain altogether.

The physician must find out every thing about all the other complaints that accompany the migraine attacks, such as, nausea, vomiting, irritability, constipation or diarrhea, photophobia, hot flushes, sweats, any problems with vision or sense of perception and any other symptoms related to the migraine. The physician must also consider changes in the feelings of his patient; any changes in skin condition, flesh and bones after the pain leaves.

Note: The following explanation is not designed to make you feel childlike, stupid, uneducated or in any manner feel less than you are at your stage of life. However, it is necessary in order for you to understand that we all may use different thought meaning for conversational spoken words we use than what our listener may apply to the words.

The symptoms of any ailment, condition or disease can be compared to the words of any language. The various symptoms we humans suffer from can be compared to the words of any language telling a physician what symptoms the patient needs to get cured.

To give a simile:

This monograph is written in very simple English that everyone should be able to understand. Yet these very words that you have heard and used so often, today convey something new to you, something very different from what these same words meant to you when they were used in some other context and in a different combination or at a different time in your life.

Take a very simple word like 'LINE'. What does it mean? Webster's Dictionary for everyday use, says 'LINE' means:

Ø       a rope, wire or string, a slender cord;

Ø       a threadlike mark, an extended stroke;

Ø       that which has one dimension, length, but no breadth or thickness;

Ø       a course of conduct, thought, or policy;

Ø       a trend; ‑a department, a trade, business or profession;

Ø       a system of buses, trains, or passenger aircraft under one management;

Ø       a railway track;

Again "to line" means to cover on the inside. Lining.

And when these four letters 'L I N E' are combined with other letters they form very different words ‑ LINEN, LINER, LINEAR, etc., which have different meanings when used in different combinations.

From this example it is clear that to be able to understand a simple word like 'LINE' it is essential that we use it in different ways in combination with different words, and in all the different combinations it has different meanings.

To understand what migraine or any other disease, ailment or condition means, a physician using homeopathic medical methods has to know all the symptoms that a particular patient is suffering from. Only then would he be able to find a correct simile and prescribe the curative medicine.

19. WHY IS THE PRACTICE OF HOMEOPATHIC MEDICINE NOT BETTER KNOWN AND MORE POPULAR?

The homeopathic system of medicine is truly scientific, simply intricate and intricately simple. Understanding requires a deep knowledge of anatomy (the parts of the body), physiology (the functioning of the body), pathology (the disease process), and normal and abnormal psychology (the function of the mind). It is as simple and as complicated as any language. It is as scientific as mathematics. It is based on the fundamental laws of nature, the laws that govern this universe and are as old as time itself. The principles have been known for over 5,000 years. Quantum physics explains why the electromagnetic field of a medicine affects the electromagnetic field of the body.

Naturopathic physicians are educated in medical school to apply homeopathic medical scientific principles and thought in evaluating their patients. This knowledge helps them gain a fuller understanding of the nature of their patients illness. The gathering of data necessary to 'take the case' and determine the correct homeopathic medicine that will be curative takes considerable time, concentration, and research.

Primarily because of this time factor, and the high cost of this 'expert and highly experienced professional time' homeopathic treatment was available only to the very rich. Here in America a very few rich people in the category of people like John D. Rockefeller and film star Marlene Dietrich have been homeopathic patients. In England the present Queen Elizabeth and the Royal family for the last three generations have also been cared for by physicians trained in the homeopathic method.

Just as the study of languages like Hebrew, Latin and Sanskrit is beyond the comprehension of the general run of students, the allopathically trained medical doctor (M.D.) is not taught to comprehend and apply the fundamental laws of nature in the same manner as one trained in the principles on which homeopathy is based. Because the allopaths could not understand homeopathy they ridiculed it over the past 200 years and some still continue to do so.

At the same time a number of allopathic medical doctors, while they continue to offer the standard allopathic treatment to their patients, turn to physicians using homeopathy for assistance in their own treatment and the treatment of their near and dear ones.

At this stage it would be proper to quote just the first paragraph from the book, The Patient, Not the Cure; The Challenge of Homeopathy, by Dr. Marjorie G. Blackie, Physician to Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth of England:

"In his Principles and Practice of Homeopathy, Dr. Wheeler, one of the finest of English homeopathic medical doctors, wrote that very few of those who condemned the practice of homeopathy had any knowledge of its principles, to say nothing of its practice, and that therefore it is fair to say that in a Court of Science their testimony, however valuable and dogmatic must be considered invalid."

Edward Jenner, as it is stated in the Textbook of Medicine, was exposed to the teachings of his contemporary scholars, medical professors, and physicians of his day, of which Hahnemann was one. Later theorized the concept of vaccination using Hahnemann's model of "like cures like." He first used scrapings from a cowpox lesion (sore), this is a disease that bovine's (cows) suffer. He diluted these scrapings to about 6x. The diluted mixture was then given to the patient to stimulate immunity in the body to the smallpox infective organism.

Regarding the question that began this answer, "Why is Homeopathy not better known?" This question has been beautifully answered by Nicholas Von Hoffman in an article that appeared in "The Washington Post". We quote a few paragraphs from that article:

"In Washington D.C., the city of statues, there are many busts of once famous men whose names no longer mean anything to the people who daily walk by them. These statues erected by their once numerous admirers represent a kind of forgotten history of America.

"One of these statues sits on Scott Circle not 10 minutes walk north of the White House and the always shuttered Russian Embassy. It depicts a pensive man and about him on the accompanying stone there are Latin phrases. This man was once so famous that the people who erected the monument in his honor thought it was superfluous to chisel his first name. So he is only identified by a single word, HAHNEMANN.

"Samuel Hahnemann lived from 1755 to 1843 and, although this German physician never visited the United States, for 70 years or more his ideas tore up and divided American medicine. No other single individual caused the settled and comfortable structures of this profession the trouble Hahnemann did, and even now many of the questions he raised have not been answered.

"Hahnemann's novel teachings about the theory and practice of medicine first hit America around 1830. It was a time not too dissimilar from ours. Public dissatisfaction with the doctoring Americans were getting was growing as it is now and for some of the same reasons.

"WHEN THEY WEREN'T ADDICTING THEIR PATIENTS, THEY WERE SUBJECTING THEM TO TERRIBLE, SOMETIMES FATAL, SIDE EFFECTS. FOR THEN, AS NOW, THE SIDE EFFECTS OF SOME MEDICATIONS WERE FAR MORE POTENT AND DEBILITATING THAN THEIR BENEFICIAL EFFECTS WERE THERAPEUTIC.

"Hahnemann's homeopathic medicine has its drawbacks. The cures are slower since they are primarily designed to get your body in shape to cure yourself, and your body isn't a whiz‑bang miracle drug shot straight from the laboratories of some commercial pharmaceutical house. The knowledge required of the doctor is huge. The physician using homeopathic principles and medicines must have an exact understanding of the workings of hundreds and hundreds of remedies; in addition, he must have the time and skill to examine his patients in minute and precise detail; the patient, too, must be willing to work with the doctor and try to understand what the doctor is doing in order to help him. Some patients would rather risk traumatic therapeutics.

'Thus both the predisposition of American doctors and laymen, as well as the economics of our medical system, was hostile to homeopathy. The American Medical Association denounced it and fought it. Nevertheless, by about the turn of the century there were something like 10,000 homeopathic physicians and 110 homeopathic hospitals. Its demonstrated ability to cure people was so superior to regular medicine that it became the medicine of the upper-class rich with people like John D. Rockefeller having homeopathic physicians and men like Mark Twain writing that, "... the introduction of homeopathy ... forced the old school doctor to stir around and learn something of his business," you may honestly feel grateful that homeopathy survived the attempts to destroy it.

"Yet today there are only a few homeopathic doctors left in America ‑ they are regular physicians who have gone to regular medical schools and are MD's. Soon the last of them may be gone and remembered as imperfectly as the man whose statue stands in Scott Circle, but not their ideas, not their disturbing questions nor their insistence that the practice of medicine be elevated from the blind man's bluff into a science we can rely on. For as it was once 140 years ago, so now too it is clear to layman and professional alike that great changes must soon be made or we run the risk of dying at the hands of our own doctors."

In recent years, many conscientious doctors have become disenchanted with the present medical practice. They find the modern powerful drugs do not really cure, they only alter the symptoms.

In fact, today we do not even talk about 'cure' or curing a disease, we only talk about 'treating' diseases. The drugs only alter the symptoms, and most often, while the patient is told that his condition has been successfully treated, he is more sick than he was before the start of the treatment.

Many a conscientious physician who has become disenchanted with the general practice of any branch of medicine of his day and has investigated homeopathy with a critical and scientific approach to understanding has been more than convinced about its effectiveness. Many continued to practice medicine by adding homeopathic principles and medicines to their original list of treatments whether allopathic, osteopathic, naturopathic, chiropractic, podiatry, dentistry or other healing art in the cure of all types of ailments, conditions, and diseases.

This was true of Samuel Hahnemann, the founder of homeopathy. He was educated as a Medical Doctor, and continued to practice as one until he got disenchanted with the results and started looking for an alternative. After much searching he finally founded the principles of homeopathic practice. When his influence grew to the level of being interpreted as threatening the current day medical practitioners' canons of medical philosophy. Dr. Constantine Hering was appointed by the established medical association to investigate Hahnemann, and prove that Hahnemann was a charlatan. The investigations so convinced Dr. Hering of the value of homeopathic medical principles that he became a homeopathic physician himself. It was Dr. Hering who introduced homeopathy to America. Case histories for more than the last 200 years show thousands of conscientious physicians have followed in the footsteps of physicians like Hahnemann and Hering.

More and more conscientious doctors are now studying homeopathy, and already a stage has arrived when thousands of patients are receiving this form of homeopathic treatment.

With the results that this scientific, gentle and true ART OF HEALING is producing, the time is not far when Homeopathy will once again become a household term.

20. IS THE PRACTICE OF HOMEOPATHY LEGAL?

Yes! The practice of homeopathy is legal in the United States. It is also legal in many other countries such as: Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, England, France, Germany, Holland, India, Mexico, Pakistan, etc. In the United States any licensed physician may diagnose, prescribe and treat using homeopathic medical principles and remedies. In the United States the only schools of medicine that teach homeopathy as a regular section of their medical curriculum are naturopathic medical schools.

Arizona, Connecticut, and Nevada license the practice of homeopathic medicine as a separate medical profession allowing allopathic and osteopathic medical physicians the right to practice without fear of persecution from their peers.

21. WHO MAKES HOMEOPATHIC MEDICINES?

Homeopathic medicines are manufactured in America and other countries by licensed homeopathic pharmaceutical companies working under FDA stringent regulations. The medicines are manufactured according to specifications laid down in The Homeopathic Pharmacopoeia of the United States.

The first American pharmacopoeia was copyrighted in 1897 by the Committee on Pharmacopoeia of the American Institute of Homeopathy. The American Institute of Homeopathy is the oldest medical society in America. It was first organized in 1843.

In fact, the American homeopathic pharmacies export homeopathic medicines to nearly all the countries in the world where homeopathy is practiced.

22. HOW CAN ONE LEARN MORE ABOUT HOMEOPATHY?

You may order a book list and purchase books on homeopathy to study and investigate the truths of this healing art for yourself.

23. WHAT ABOUT ONE'S REGULAR DOCTOR?

Discuss this question with your family doctor. Ask him if he knows Homeopathy. Has he read any books on the subject. If he hasn't, give him a copy of this booklet. It is quite possible that your family doctor may be one of the many 'conscientious physicians.' Without your knowledge he may be searching for an alternative that could help not only you, but all his other patients as well.

24. WHAT'S THE FIRST STEP?

Ask for the "Health Profile Questionnaire Narrative Outline" and make an appointment for a case taking interview consultation. Once we have the full details of your condition and ailments we can discuss together whether or not homeopathic medical therapeutics is the best approach to your healthcare needs.

We will also evaluate your "case" to see if any of our many other types of treatment would be more beneficial to investigate with you.
